On the other hand, given that this grayscale avian has been around since long before black-and-white TVs, maybe it\u2019s more accurate to say that show-runners follow the Titmouse playbook when they create stories about fictional&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Family_Ties\"><em>Family Ties<\/em><\/a><\/span>.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diff%27rent_Strokes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">Diff\u2019rent Strokes<\/span><\/em><\/a>&nbsp;for different folks, at they say, but here\u2019s one chick\u2019s take on&nbsp;<em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Facts_of_Life_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Facts of Life<\/a><\/span>\u2026<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lafayettepark.org\/staging_5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/tufted-titmouse-pair-by-patricia-pierce-ccl-by-2.0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3144\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Titmice are a great example of &#8220;like attracts like.&#8221;&nbsp; Male and female are teapot short and stout (5\u00bd to 6\u00bc in or 14 to 16 cm from bill to tail-tip), albeit lankier than most of their cousins. Both are dapper in their tarnished silver blazers, matching feathered caps, antique ivory turtlenecks, and unbuttoned copper-stained vests, accessorized with large black eyes and an abbreviated, pointed black beak topped by a terse column of feathers of the same hue.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Once paired,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Honeymooners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">The Honeymooners<\/span><\/em><\/a> find a place to call home and stay put. Their relatives, the <span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lafayettepark.org\/staging_5\/dee-lovely\/\">chickadees<\/a><\/span> and tits, are quite social, gathering in flocks once the year&#8217;s crop of kids has been raised. Nevertheless, the introverted Titmouse disposition makes staying close to home a more appealing option, even when there\u2019s an&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Empty_Nest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Empty Nest<\/em><\/a><\/span>.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lafayettepark.org\/staging_5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Tufted-Titmouse-at-Nest-Hole-by-Brian-Henderson-ccl-by-nc-2.0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3140\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speaking of said nest\u2026 Mrs &amp; Mr T are really into&nbsp;<em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Home_Improvement_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Home Improvement<\/a><\/span>.&nbsp;<\/em>They\u2019ll find an unclaimed tree cavity, vacated woodpecker dugout, a well-placed nest box, or handy metal pipe, then fix-\u2018er-up, singing \u201c<em>peter, peter, peter!<\/em>\u201d while they work (it\u2019s a fine name but I hope they\u2019ve got several more on the list).<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repurposed materials used for redecorating including moss, grass, strips of bark, scraps of cotton or wool, scavenged cigarette filters, and human hair. Titmice like to add a touch of luxury if possible,&nbsp; rummaging for tufts of fur from all manner of mammals, including raccoons and opossums, cows and horses, squirrels and rabbits, cats and dogs. Resolute titmice have even been observed harvesting the raw materials for this insulating layer directly from live animals when second-hand stocks are low.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lafayettepark.org\/staging_5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/tufted-titmouse-eggs-by-colleen-ccl-by-sa-2.0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3143\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Once the couple have prepped the nursery, Mom-to-be gets to work fabricating 4 to 8 cream-colored eggs peppered with persimmon, pomegranate, plum, or pecan pigments. She stays home to keeps them safe and warm, Dad heads out each day to collect enough insects, spiders, snails, seeds, nuts, and berries to keep the pair fed, and for 12 to 14 days it\u2019s a scene straight out of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Happy_Days\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">Happy Days<\/span>&nbsp;<\/em><\/a>era. Then the kids begin to experience&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Growing_Pains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">Growing Pains<\/span>&nbsp;<\/em><\/a>in their claustrophobic nursery-shells, kick their way out to greet the world, and commence a constant chorus of \u201cI\u2019m hungry!\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Let the frenetic&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Modern_Family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">Modern Family<\/span><\/em><\/a>&nbsp;two-income co-parenting begin!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lafayettepark.org\/staging_5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/tufted-titmouse-takeoff-by-Dennis-Church-ccl-by-nc-nd-2.0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3145\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another two weeks into this&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Family_Affair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Family Affair<\/em><\/a><\/span>&nbsp;and in the nest is getting a little&nbsp;<em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Too_Close_for_Comfort\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Too Close for Comfort<\/a><\/span>.<\/em>&nbsp;Time to stretch those tiny wings and fly!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not too far, though, at least not right away.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Most songbirds are independent at two or three months of age, and their parents are keen to have them leave home. In an odd-for-avians plot twist, though, Tufted Titmice not only tolerate a longer launch countdown, they&#8217;ll recruit the previous breeding season&#8217;s offspring to help with the care and feeding of their younger siblings.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After all, keeping it&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #378db8;\"><a style=\"color: #378db8;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All_in_the_Family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>All in the Family<\/em><\/a><\/span>&nbsp;worked out great for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Waltons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">The Waltons<\/span><\/em><\/a>, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eight_Is_Enough\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #378db8;\">Bradens<\/span><\/a>, and other big broods on the small screen.
